Hotels around Times Square are in huge demand for New Year's Eve. Many sell special packages: rooms with a designated Ball Drop view, stays combined with in-hotel parties, or minimum-night stays over the holiday. These packages usually come with stricter terms than a normal booking, such as multi-night minimums, early deposits and tough cancellation rules.

The most important thing to understand is that a hotel being on Times Square does not mean your room can see the Ball. Only specific, clearly named room categories or offers have that view. If the booking doesn't explicitly say “Ball Drop view,” assume it doesn't have one.

Which hotels have a Ball Drop view?
Only specific rooms at a few Times Square hotels. For 2027, the New York Marriott Marquis sells a designated Ball Drop View Room offer. Never assume a room has a view unless the booking explicitly says so.
Can I check in on December 31?
It depends on the hotel and package. The Marriott Marquis says Dec 31 is not an eligible check-in date for its Ball Drop View Room offer. Arriving on Dec 31 is also difficult because of street closures.
Is it better to stay inside or outside the Times Square area?
Inside puts you steps from the celebration but makes arrival and movement harder on Dec 31. Staying just outside Midtown is easier and often cheaper, and you can still reach the celebration on foot or by subway.
